President's Message
Pinellas Chapter Members,
Happy New Year! Hope all had a fun holiday season with friends and family and wish all the best of a healthy, fun, happy, safe, and prosperous 2010! I also hope to see you all participating actively in our FES events.
We will be getting 2010 started with two great events! In January we will be hosting Mr. Pete Yauch, P.E., Pinellas County Assistant County Administrator and Director of Public Works and Transportation, who will be talking to us about infrastructure, past, present and future in Pinellas County. In February, we will be hosting our traditional legislative delegation event. Come join us and take advantage of the opportunity to meet the politicians that represent you and talk with them about what is important to you and to our profession.
Please stay tuned for more exciting announcements as we progress further into 2010! Better yet, come join us at your Board meetings! We love it when you attend and always welcome your contributions! Check out the calendar section for details on your Board meetings and other events.
Hope to see you soon!
Andy Nunez, PE
President, FES Pinellas Chapter
FES is an excellent tool to develop positive leadership skills that can be applied to our professional careers. Leadership training comes from:
- Participation in chapter committees
- Volunteering to lead the chapter as an officer
- Working a registration desk at a chapter function
- Fundraising for scholarships at a chapter golf tournament
- Inviting new members to join your chapter
- Mentoring a recent college graduate
- Serving as a State Society officer
- Nominating a colleague for a FES Award
- Serving as judge at the local science fair or MATHCOUNTS competition
- Being aware of the issues effecting the engineering profession
Each of these small actions makes an impact in our personal and professional development at each level we reach. FES encourages us to become more involved and support the profession. For additional information about FES involvement and leadership development, contact one of the chapter officers and ask what you can get involved with.
